Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program

Central Behavioral Health » Adult Services » Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that’s especially helpful for people who feel emotions intensely and/or have trouble managing them — which often leads to behaviors that complicate their lives.

“Dialectical” simply means when two things that seem opposite to each other can both be true. It might seem impossible to accept yourself exactly as you are while trying to change your behaviors at the same time. But DBT shows you that that’s possible by helping you to:

  • Understand and accept strong emotions
  • Learn practical skills for managing difficult feelings
  • Be able to make positive changes in your life

Our DBT program features:

  • Weekly one-on-one therapy
  • Weekly group skills training sessions
  • Coaching with your individual therapist as needed outside of regular sessions to help with skills integration.
  • Weekly therapist consultation meetings for our DBT therapists to share insights with each other

Testimonial

Completing DBT has made me feel like I was able to gain better control of my emotions and how I react to them, almost as if I was tapping into a part of my brain I never used before. I was able to gain skills that made me more aware of my decision-making skills/behaviors and guided me to a healthier way of thinking.
